Celebrating Pi (π) Day Where it All Started

March 18, 2022

We were in San Francisco on Monday for a Pi (π) Day celebration at the place it all began: the Exploratorium! Our partners in designing the Kiewit Luminarium experience founded Pi Day in 1988. After not being able to hold the annual festivities in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, the Exploratorium community celebrated the 35th anniversary of Pi Day with a parade, music, art, activities to estimate the value of pi, and of course, pie!

Pi Day has become an international holiday, celebrated live and online around the world. The numbers in the date (3/14) match the first three digits of the mathematical constant pi. We’re looking forward to celebrating Pi Day at Kiewit Luminarium and out in the community in the years to come!
