OMAHA, Neb. —Landing on the bullseye is normally a good thing. Unless there’s a piano right above you, hanging on by mere threads.
“That’s your opportunity to face your fear of death,” said Brenton Gomez, a program coordinator for the Kiewit Luminarium.
This spooky season, Gomez created an experience centered around fear.
“It’s really important for us to understand the similarities of our fears because so much of our time we spend thinking about the difference we have,” said Gomez.
Luminarium guest Justin Terry walked through the fear-inducing exhibits. His biggest fear are spiders. During his time there, he learned something new about himself. Terry attempted a virtual reality where he walks off a plank atop a skyscraper.
“Wow this is so real,” he said.
Terry had to turn around before getting to the end of the plank.
Another common fear for people to experience is public speaking. They can also see how the body responds to fear through a hand-sensor that measures heat.
“There’s a certain reaction our bodies do create when we’re having fear, which is hormones like cortisol and adrenaline pumping through our bodies,” said Gomez.
By checking out the exhibits, people could realize they have a fear they never knew they had. The program lasts until Sunday.
