Field Trips at Kiewit Luminarium

Deepening Classroom Concepts

Alignment to Standards

During your visit to Kiewit Luminarium, you will find many exhibits that align with state standards. Educators are invited to interact with their students to facilitate connections with other exhibits to expand upon classroom topics and practices.

Self-Guided Activity Suggestions

Constructing Explanations

A 25-minute activity for small teams of students to deeply explore one exhibit and report back to the larger group. The activity has been differentiated to address standards in intermediate and middle school grades, with a general version that can be used by other grade levels.

Scavenger Hunt

A 25 to 45-minute activity for small teams of students to deeply explore three exhibits. Unlike a typical scavenger hunt that is a race to find as many pre-determined checkpoints or objects as possible, the Kiewit Luminarium Scavenger Hunt prompts teams of students to notice, wonder, and try out different ideas at a few exhibits.

Concept Connections

A 25-minute activity for small teams of students to deeply explore three exhibits and to describe a concept that the three exhibits have in common.
