Omaha museum takes guests on a behind-the-scenes look at love, focusing on science this Valentine’s Day season

The Kiewit Luminarium is offering the chance to learn “The Chemistry of Love.”

The new exhibit is set to open the day after Valentine’s Day.

Families can explore things like rose dissections, learn about queen bees inside beehives, and more.

Then, during the Luminarium’s adults-only “Night Lights,” guests can take part in demonstrations on the science of chocolate, a date night scavenger hunt and more.

The exhibit runs through Feb. 29.

Anthony Galdamez of Omaha is a veteran, teacher and works at Kiewit Luminarium, all of which intersect in ways with his role as a NASA Solar System Ambassador. Ambassadors are responsible for public engagement - using events like talks and conferences to help us understand space-related research, for example, and its impacts.

Kiewit Luminarium Opens Doors to Discovery

“Omaha was the last city of its size to have a science center,” DeWitt explained. “Science centers like the Luminarium make STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) learning accessible to children and adults and can spark interest in STEM careers, spark new ideas, and foster a deeper understanding of the world.” 

A child and an adult are enjoying the installation, Shrumen Lumen by FoldHaus Collective, in the Catch Waves gallery of the Luminarium. The glowing, interactive sculpture is illuminated in vibrant blues and purples, surrounded by the museum’s colorful and dynamic exhibits.
