Join the UNO Biomechanics Lab for a fun and educational baseball experience!
Guests will have the opportunity to measure their baseball and softball skills to see how they measure up against professional athletes.
In addition to pitching and hitting stations, guests will be able to measure their broad jump, grip strength, reaction time and sprint speed.
- Broad Jump: Using a tape measure, we can measure the maximum length of the participant’s jump.
- Grip Strength: Participants use a handheld dynamometer to measure their grip strength.
- Reaction Time: Participants will test their reflexes through a reaction-time assessment to explore how quickly they can respond to a visual or auditory stimulus, important for both batting and fielding.
- Diagnostic Ultrasound: Participants will observe real-time ultrasound imaging of the elbow, including the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), commonly associated with “Tommy John” injuries. This station will highlight how medical imaging is used in sports medicine to evaluate soft tissue structures.
In-Game Experience
Participants will also engage in sport-specific activities that replicate elements of live game play.
- Pitching: Participants can throw baseballs, softballs, or wiffle balls to measure velocity and explore how accuracy, ball size, grip, and spin influence performance.
- Hitting: Participants will hit off a tee to explore swing speed and its impact on ball exit velocity.
