Join Keep Omaha Beautiful for a hands-on workshop where science meets creativity! At “Green-gineering: Build a Sponge City,” dive into the fascinating world of biomimicry—the science of learning from nature to solve human challenges. Explore how plants, soil, and natural landscapes work to manage water in smart and sustainable ways. You’ll see how we can mimic these systems in our own cities through green infrastructure.
The highlight of the workshop is building your own “sponge city!” Use sponge pieces, craft materials, and your imagination to design and construct model cities. Through playful experimentation, learn how features like green roofs, rain gardens, and permeable pavements can help reduce flooding, limit water pollution, and protect our environment.
Curious minds of all ages will enjoy blending fun, STEM-based learning with real-world environmental problem-solving. Come get creative and be inspired by the power of nature!
There will be TWO Sessions for this activity: 11-11:45am // 1-1:45pm
