In this hands-on workshop facilitated by Dr. Jody Green, Dr. Louise Lynch-O’Brien, and Kait Chapman of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension office, you’ll explore how water beetles breathe underwater using trapped air bubbles. Similar to natural scuba tanks, explore how these water striders seem to walk on water thanks to surface tension and special water-repelling legs. These incredible adaptations have sparked real-world innovations in underwater breathing gear, air-trapping materials, and hydrophobic coatings.
