The Science of Fear

This October, the Luminarium is bringing our spirit of curiosity and discovery to mark a season which has long been recognized by many cultures as a mysterious liminal time.
The Science of Fear invites guests to explore the many cultural and personal dynamics of fear. Through several interactive experiences for all ages, the Luminarium presents a multi-sensory investigation into fear as a phenomenon. From the physiological experience of fear to its many manifestations in human culture, there’s much to explore! What scares you the most? Do you share the same fears with your friends, family, or a stranger? Can you muster courage to face the fear of heights and walk a wooden plank off the edge of a skyscraper wearing a VR headset?

Dia De Los Muertos
October 10 – NoVEMBER 3, 2024
All month, come experience how the Luminarium has been transformed as we mark the coming of Dia De Los Muertos. Throughout the building we’ve built ofrendas to honor friends and family members who have passed. Learn more about the cultural significance of these artistic expression of love and the mystery of the beyond.
